Powassan tops Abitibi 4-1

POWASSAN – Steve Harland tallied twice and Matt Young made 24 saves in his Powassan Voodoos debut to help lead them to a 4-1 triumph over the Abitibi Eskimos Friday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Voodoos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period of play on markers a minute and 43 seconds apart by Harland and Nicholas Proulx.

Tyler Gervais-Rolfe made it 3-0 at the 8:12 mark of the middle session before Abitibi’s Brady Clouthier put his side on the board with his team-leading 12th tally of the season at 16:17.

Harland capped things off with an empty netter with two seconds remaining in the third to round out the scoring.

Chet Tooker faced 35 shots in a losing cause for the Eskimos.

With the win Powassan improved to 3-8-0-2 while Abitibi dropped their third straight falling to 8-6-0-2 overall.
