Blizzard forward Marooney makes NCAA DI commitment

The Brookings Blizzard of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) are proud to announce that forward Cody Marooney has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey next season at the University of Alabama-Huntsville.

Marooney is 6’0” 195lb forward from Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He has played in 31 games for the Blizzard this season with 5 goals and 15 assists.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for Cody,” said Blizzard head coach Cory Laylin. “It is great to see a player work hard throughout his career and battle through adversity. That hard work has really paid off for him. “

The University of Alabama-Huntsville is a NCAA Division I program and the newest member of the WCHA (Western Collegiate Hockey Association).

“Huntsville is the type of program that is great for college hockey. They a have a new coaching staff that bring a lot of experience to the school,” added Laylin.

Marooney spent a good portion of the season with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL, but sat out much of that time with a broken ankle.

“His heart and desire is off the charts and there is now doubt he will succeed at the next level,” said Laylin. “He has come back from injury and played well for us this season. He has meant a lot to our team.”
