Dubuques Mark Jankowski headed to NCAA July 31, 2012 7:47 AM

The USHL has lost another player. This time though the loss is not to a Major Junior Team in Canada.

Instead of reporting to the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League, Mark Jankowski will accelerate his schedule and start his college hockey career with the Providence College Friars this fall.

If all goes well, the next stop will be the NHL.

A few weeks shy of his 18th birthday, Jankowski will be among the youngest skaters in the NCAA’s Hockey East Conference next season, but there is little doubt he will fit right in. A strong skater, with all the physical tools, Jankowski is seen to be needing a few years to physically mature before making the jumpr to the pro game.

The Calgary Flames surprised many hockey people by selecting Jankowski with the No. 21 pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. Calgary has made it clear they’re willing to wait for the 6-foot-3, 168-lb. forward to mature into an pro-calibre talent.
