GOJHL Expanding October 11, 2012 9:27 AM

We havent heard much about the Canadian initiative called "Tomorrows Game" since early this summer. News today though would have The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League adding a new conference for next season.

The proposed new conference would add teams east of Guelph, spreading throughout the Ontario Hockey Association footprint north to Barrie and as far east as Kingston.

P art of the Tomorrow’s Game blueprint, which is slowly being implemented into the OHA, is to expand the GOJHL into four conferences. Some Ontario cities lost their teams when the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League started eliminating teams in order to raise the level of play within their league.

The first step for the expansion committee is to gauge interest, and ownership groups must contact the OHA by Nov. 15. Those groups will be looked at to see if they are viable, and those prospective teams will receive formal application packages. Owners will be interviewed and new franchises will be awarded in April.

The GOJHL is anticipating that between six and eight cities will be added to the loop. Some Junior C teams are rumored to be considering making the jump to Junior B as well.
