Harvard Removes Players December 11, 2012 8:26 AM

The Harvard Hockey Team has removed four players, defensemen Patrick McNally, Max Everson, Mark Luzar and goalie Stephen Michalek, in what may have been part of an academic scandal.

Patrick McNally, Max Everson, Mark Luzar were removed from the Harvard roster last week. Stephen Michalek left the program in November.

Yesterday Harvard goaltender Raphael Girard told the university’s student newspaper, “Some guys had to take a year absent. I won’t say any names, but like any other team, we might have some problems with the academic scandal. Some of them just want to take leaves to get more playing time and come back later because they were younger guys. Some other guys were just injured. But overall, they’re going to come back; they’re still part of our family and still part of our team.”

Patrick McNally a Vancouver Canucks prospect, had the opportunity to put himself against some of the top prospects in the CHL and European leagues before attending Harvard. Rumors surfaced late last night that he may now look to the Canadian Major Junior system. A defenseman and fourth-round selection of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, had 28 points last season as a freshman and was named to the ECAC’s All-Rookie squad. He had three points in seven games this season.

Everson, also a defenseman, had one assist in seven games this season and four assists in 34 games last season. Sources are saying he will look to the USHL to continue his season. A sophomore from Edina, Minnesota, he had his rights picked up by the Omaha Lancers last week and will likely go play for them the rest of the season.

Mark Luzar who has been out with a shoulder injury may look to return to Ontario once healthy.

Stephen Michalek a Minnesota Wild draft pick , left the team in November and has an .852 save% in 4 games with Cedar Rapids of the USHL.
