Mario Lemieux to attend Tomahawks home opener August 29, 2012 8:35 AM

Mario Lemieux will be visiting Cambria County War Memorial Arena for the Johnstown Tomahawks’ home opener against the Michigan Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29.

The Penguins Hall of Fame center and team owner, is scheduled to drop the ceremonial first puck on the Tomahawks inaugural season in Johnstown. Prior to the puck drop, Lemieux is scheduled to meet with the Tomahawks players. Not a bad way to provide more inspiration to young players on opening night than to have one of the games most prolific scorers visit the players.

Lemieux will have a little extra time on his hands to scout the nearby Tomahawks this season as a lockout is threatening to delay the NHL season once again. Like many other NHL executives, Lemieux will likely be attending a lot of junior hockey games during this time which can only benefit the players heading into the 2013 draft.

With little distance between Johnstown and Pittsburgh, players can expect to get high levels of exposure to pro scouts this season.
