Michigan Announces Incoming Class

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan ice hockey team announced Thursday (June 25) the addition of two recruits for the 2015-16 season. Goaltender Chad Catt (Williamstown, Mich.) and forward Cooper Marody (Brighton, Mich.) have committed to the Wolverines for the upcoming season.

Chad Catt: A 5’10”, 190-pound goaltender … Played this past season with the Soo Eagles and the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) … In 22 games with Aberdeen in 2014-15, was 8-13-2 with a 2.84 goals-against average and .900 save percentage before a Feb. 6 trade to the Soo Eagles … Finished the 2014-15 regular season with a 7-4-3 record and had a 2.25 GAA and .920 Save %, leading the Eagles to the NAHL postseason, where he posted a 3-2-0 record with a 2.47 GAA and .927 Save % … Started his junior career with the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders (USHL) in 2012 … Played three seasons in the NAHL, beginning his junior career with the Amarillo Bulls in 2012-13 before moving on to Aberdeen that same season … In 89 games played at the NAHL level, he is 42-36-6 with a 2.48 GAA and .922 Save% … Split time with Zach Nagelvoort in net as teammates in Aberdeen during the 2012-13 season … Victory Honda U18 teammate of current Wolverines Tony Calderone, Cutler Martin, Alex Talcott, Niko Porikos and Max Shuart and a Honeybaked U16 teammate of Martin and Alex Kile.

“Chad is coming as an older goalie, having played various junior levels of hockey,” said U-M assistant coach Brian Wiseman. “He’s a very competitive player in net, and he’s going to add great depth and great competition in goal.”

Cooper Marody: A 6’0″, 177-pound forward … Played this past season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks and the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL) … Finished 11th overall in USHL scoring with 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists) in 52 games … In 14 games with Muskegon, notched nine points (two goals, seven assists) before a Dec. 4 trade to Sioux Falls … In 38 games with Sioux Falls, notched 49 points (20 goals, 29 assists), leading the team to a western conference regular-season title and the 2015 Clark Cup championship, as Marody notched 12 points (goal, 11 assists) in 12 playoff games for the Stampede … Played 2013-14 season with Muskegon, notching 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists) in 58 games … Ranked No. 53 by NHL Central Scouting among North American skaters … Earned invitation to USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Jan. 2015.

“Cooper is a highly skilled, high IQ hockey player that plays well with the puck,” Wiseman said. “He plays the type of game that we’re trying to play, a puck-possession, create-offense type of player.”
