Rock roll early in win over Express

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock jumped out to a fast five-goal cushion and went on from there to defeat the Espanola Express 8-1 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up an McIntyre Arena.

It took Timmins just 16 seconds to get rolling as Jordan Rendle notched his 18th marker of the season.

Alexandre Brisson’s first NOJHL tally three minutes later put the hosts up a pair early before Cole Gilligan, Aaron Kerr, on the power play and Ryan Kerr made it 5-0.

Espanola managed to get one back before the opening frame was complete as Cameron Anklewich converted during a late man advantage opportunity with 22 seconds left in the period.

After a scoreless middle session, Timmins put the game away in their third as Brisson had one at even strength while Bain Cunningham and Tristan Salesse, with his 20th, both struck shorthanded to round out the night’s scoring.

Cunningham also had two assists on the night for the Rock on an evening where he ran a consecutive game point streak to six in succession.

Logan Ferrington made 27 saves to pick-up the win for Timmins.

Kevin Labelle saw 46 attempts fired his way in defeat for the Express.
