Shattuck St. Mary’s Names New Hockey Director And New Prep Coach

When Tom Ward left Shattuck last week it took many by surprise.  But the naming of Gordie Stafford as his successor in the role of Hockey Director is no surprise.

Gordie Stafford started coaching at SSM in sixteen years ago with the boys midget AA team, and took over as girls prep coach and director of girls hockey in 2004.  Shattuck’s girls teams have won 11 national titles in Stafford’s tenure, including two this year. He will continue to coach the girls prep team.

Ben Umhoefer is moving up from the Shattuck U-16 team, and has been named the new boys prep coach, replacing Ward in that role.  Umhoefer, a 2005 Shattuck graduate will also continue to serve as the director of player recruitment.

Shattuck has not made a decision on who will be replacing Umhoefer with the U-16 program or who will replace Adam Nightingale as boys bantam head coach who also left to take a video coach job with Buffalo.
