The Death Pool – Special Report – Whitby Fury fire Head Coach With One Game To Go

Hey kids, special report here, well actually I am snowed in and had nothing else to do, so why not right?!

So when was the last time you ever took a puck to the sack?  Well Whitby Fury Head Coach Tom Boyle took a slapper to the sack Tuesday morning, and his assistant coaches took the rebounds off their heads and resigned too!  Yep, the whole coaching staff is gone with one game left in the season.

This season the Fury were 27-20-2-4 heading into the final game of the season last night, a game they lost to the Toronto Patriot 3 to 1.  Yep, it sure looks like the coaching move motivated those players to perform.

Last season, Boyle his first full season as the head coach, led the Fury to a 35-14-2-2 record.  This season was not as good, but he was winning and in the playoffs.

Forget the fact that the team has been hit by injuries, made a ton of player moves, and is the fifth most penalized team in the OJHL.

Looking at their losses, only a handful of them were by more than one or two goals.  Then looking at their transactions, this team has used more players than Tim Hortons uses coffee filters in a season.  Yep, you can always blame the coach for one goal games, he should be able to put the puck in the net from the bench right?

GM John Tugnutt said;

“There’s never a good time to relieve a coach and unfortunately this time of year sucks,” added Tugnutt. “It comes down to we didn’t want to waste the season. We thought the best opportunity would be to make the change.”

You didn’t want to waste the season?  Really?  Ummmm hate to break it to ya John, but the season was over.

So when you are getting ready to enter the playoffs, one game to go in the regular season, you gas a guy that has been with the players for every close loss and every win after he delivers a great season the year before and doesn’t have a losing season this year?  That makes all the sense in the world.  Hey someone call Lou Lamoriello for me will ya?

Looks like silly season is upon us, at least where the coaching carousel is concerned.  Now lets all regroup and get ready for a run to a championship eh boys!
