Timmins tames Iroquois Falls

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock used the strength of a five-goal second period to skate away from the Iroquois Falls Eskis in posting a 9-2 win Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins took control of the contest grabbing a 2-0 lead after the opening stanza.

Aaron Kerr’s 14th of the season put the Rock in front at 12:22 while Landen Matechuk supplied a power play marker just past the 16-minute mark.

Kerr and Salesse added assists on the play with the latter now having registered at least one point in each of the past 12 games he has played. Kerr meanwhile now has points in seven straight outings.

Iroquois Falls cut into the deficit 38 seconds into the second period thanks to Marco Luciani’s fifth for the Eskis.

The Rock came right back however and blew the game open striking five times to grab a 7-1 cushion after 40 minutes.

Kerr started the offensive barrage with a shorthanded effort at 2:45.

Bain Cunningham’s power play marker midway through the contest added to the home team’s lead while Matechuk, Zachary Kercz and Nicholas Hautanen added goals in the latter stages to put Timmins in full control.

Ryan Theriault then added the Rock’s second man-down marker of the evening 6:48 into the third to increase the cushion.

The Eskis’ Jacob Erwin and one more from Theriault late rounded out the scoring in the contest.

Ryan Kerr doled out three assists to aid the Rock’s cause while Salesse and Jordan Rendle had two helpers apiece in the romp.

Logan Ferrington started for Timmins and picked up the victory allowing one against on 33 attempts.

Devon Debastos played the final 14 minutes in relief for the Rock and faced two shots.

Joe Sheppard suffered the loss for the Eskis giving up six on the 33 pucks fired his way while Matthew Camilleri handled 15 of 18 in just over 23 minutes of work for Iroquois Falls.
