USA Hockey Winter Meeting Update – Independent Teams

While details have not been provided, sources at the USA Hockey Winter Meetings are informing TJHN that applications received by the Junior Council for Independent Junior Teams are being declined for sanctioning.

Sources are indicating that more than one new application for an Independent Junior team was received in a timely manner but that all have been declined.  What is unclear at this point is if these applications were for new teams in the United States that would participate in Canadian based leagues requiring dual sanctioning.

One source has also indicated, though TJHN can not confirm, that one Independent Junior Team currently sanctioned by USA Hockey may have lost its sanctioning for the 2013-2014 season.

The Wenatchee Wild application, and planned move from the NAHL to the BCHL has been approved according to multiple sources.

Voting on team transfers from multiple leagues on the East Coast of the United States to various divisions under the NAHL umbrella are said to be ongoing.

TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
