USPHL Junior Islanders Planning Canadian trip

Simcoe Ontario will be the home of the Suffolk Junior Islanders for a few days this summer.

The North Simcoe Sports and Recreation Centre will be home base for the Islanders starting August 20th and ending August 23rd.  A training camp along with two exhibition fundraising games will be played.

The Junior Islanders will play an Aug. 23 exhibition game against the Midland Flyers of the Georgian Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League. That game will be a fundraiser for the Makayla King Foundation. The following evening, the team will face the Georgian Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League Penetang Kings, with the proceeds from that game going to the Bunn’s Kids charity.

This will be the second time the Islanders organization has made the trip to Simcoe.  Last year local resident Buzz Deschaps, who is a special adviser to Junior Islanders general manager Ron Kinnear, arranged for the Islanders Midget team to visit Simcoe.  The visit went so well it was easy to arrange for this seasons junior team visit.

The Islanders may also get an opportunity to see some Canadian talent on the trip which could help in long term internation recruiting efforts.
