15 Straight State Championships, yes its true

The Buffalo Junior Sabres 18-and-under team, also known as the Buffalo Elite Midget Development program, added to its state championship collection Sunday in Albany. The Junior Sabres won their 15th straight state title, beating the Buffalo Saints, 3-1, at the Albany County Hockey Facility.

David Powlowski, Owen Sheeran and Patrick Egan scored for the Junior Sabres, who held a 41-19 edge in shots. Jake Moore was the winning goalie. Buffalo advanced to the USA Hockey 18-under Tier I tournament, which will begin March 28 at the Northtown Center in Amherst. The Amherst 18-under team also will take part in the event

The idea of one team being dominant for 15 straight years is mind blowing. In New York State, arguably one of the best hockey player producing regions in the country, with millions of people, tens of thousands of hockey players, and still one team dominates the entire state. The feat is simply amazing.

In less than two weeks the U-18’s best team in the country will converge on Buffalo for the National Championships, one would have to believe the Sabres will certainly have some home ice advantage.
