Atlanta Knights – Tier III National Champions

Publishers Opinion

The Atlanta Knights EJHL South Team were crowned the USA Hockey National Champions on Tuesday in Rochester, Minnesota as they defeated the Long Island Royals, 4-3.

Watching the game on line, I could not have been happier for the Knights team. In particular I would point out Brent Kallio, a player I am a personal fan of watching. An Escanaba Michigan native I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the last two years. A character player and person coming from a great family I have had the pleasure of getting to know as well.

Brent was a player I felt should have played at a Tier II level this season, but after some disappointing camps I was able to get him in contact with David Falkenstein, Owner of the Knights. I know David to be a great owner, and someone who is passionate about developing all of the Knights players. It didnt take long and Brent was headed to Atlanta, the rest as they say is now history.

In a Championship environment Brent set the tone early, scoring two goals in the final, rising to the moment as he always does.

The EJHL South has now made a strong case as being just as good as any other Tier III league in the United States. Many people used to laugh at hockey in the south, they sure arent laughing now.

The Long Island Royals should not be forgotten either. Another quality organization that came to the tournament and fought with the "big boys", making it to the final with a very talented young group of players. This is a program you will hear more from next year and is loaded with players to keep your scouting eyes on.

Congratulations to Atlanta on a great season, and to Long Island on a great season. Congratulations to the Kallio family, the Falkestein family and all the other familys that had this championship experience.
