AWHL Billings Bulls sold May 11, 2012 7:53 AM

Quietly, Ownership of the Billings Bulls hockey club and its Tier I Midget affiliate has changed hands.

Local partners Joe Robillard and Chris Dunbar purchased the Bulls from previous owner Doug Strong for an undisclosed sum. Robillard said he and Dunbar each has a 50 percent stake in the Junior A franchise and its assets, which includes the Oz Fitness Tier I Midget AAA team.

The deal was approved by the American West Hockey League.

"We’re excited," Robillard said. "There are always some unknowns –this is a new thing for me. But other than that I think it’s going to be a fun challenge."

Strong became a minority owner of the Bulls franchise in 2001. He took over full ownership of the team in 2006, the same year it became at Tier III Junior A club. The Oz Fitness team began its first season in 2010.

"It was a great run," Strong said. "But it’s time for some new blood, some new energy and new ideas. I think Joe and Chris will do a good job with it."
