BCHL decision for Wenatchee Wild expected by end of month

The Wenatchee Wild ownership group has made its pitch to join the British Columbia Hockey League, but no decision has been made.

BCHL commissioner John Grisdale said Tuesday that the league’s Board of Governors doesn’t have a set timeline on when a decision must be reached, but that the league will make a formal announcement on the Wild’s application by the end of this month.

Grisdale acknowledged it would be tough for the BCHL to add the Wild for the 2012-13 season, as the league already set its alignment, rosters and playing rules for the season at its semi-annual meeting in January.

The BCHL’s Board of Governors passed a motion to allow the Wild to re-apply to join the league for the 2013-14 season, but it is deliberating whether it can pass a motion for the re-application to apply to next season, which is the Wild’s preference.

The BCHL hasn’t had an American member since the Bellingham Ice Hawks from 1990 to 1995.

The BCHL wouldn’t be taking the time to consider adding the Wild if both parties weren’t very interested. The move makes sense for the BCHL and the Wild. It will also allow for the Wild to move the NAHL franchise to Johnstown PA, a move supported by the NAHL and the city of Johnstown.
