Carroll named NOJHL’s most valuable player

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Jordan Carroll of the Sudbury Cubs is the 2011-12 recipient of the Carlo Cattarello Trophy, presented annually to the NOJHL’s most valuable player.

Heading into his club’s final regular season game Wednesday evening against the North Bay Trappers, the 20-year-old Sudbury product has been an offensive force for the entire 2011-12 campaign.

Not only will he finish as the league’s leading scorer, he is also among the elite in the entire 133-team Canadian Junior Hockey League.

After 49 games, Carroll leads all of the CJHL in goals scored with 69 and sits second overall in total points with 135, which includes 66 assists.

The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Cubs forward has also been a model of consistency, having only been held off the score sheet once all season.

Before Wednesday’s contest, Carroll was riding an impressive 40-game point streak and has already shattered the Sudbury team’s single-season records for goals, assists and points.

He also leads the league in shorthanded markers with nine, shares top spot in power play goals with 18 and is tied for second in game-winners with seven.

His offensive output is the most the NOJHL has seen since 1991-92, when John Stos racked up 67 goals and 106 assists for the Rayside-Balfour Canadians.
