Fairbanks Ice Dogs Spratte Commits to LSSU May 22, 2012 7:47 AM

On Monday defenseman Pete Spratte officially committed to play for Lake Superior State University, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., beginning this fall.

LSSU’s courting of Spratte became serious after the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament in February. Spratte had one assist in three games during the tournament, which featured six teams made up of the league’s top college prospects.

Spratte’s versatility also helped him stick out. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder split time between defense and forward this past season for Fairbanks, which advanced to the final four of the NAHL’s championship tournament, the Robertson Cup. This past season was his best, statistically, in Fairbanks, as he finished with six goals and 17 assists in 68 games. He finished his three-year NAHL career with 48 points, including 10 goals. Most impressive Spratte finished his Ice Dogs career with a plus-29 plus/minus rating.

LSSU loses eight seniors off a team that went 18-17-5 this past season and lost to eventual CCHA playoff champion Western Michigan in a second-round CCHA playoff series.
