Ice Dogs, Firehawks, Jr. Blaze all winners Friday night

Three games went down in Friday night Midwest Junior Hockey League action – one game was decided early, one game was tight throughout and one saw a major comeback.

 

The Michigan Ice Dogs defeated the Great Lakes Lightning 7-2 at the Allen Park Civic Arena behind Josh Arnold and James Subu each tallying two goals and an assist.

Adam Pinkowski and Corey Suba had a goal and an assist apiece, Hunter Ledgerwood tacked on two assists and Cody Brent also scored.

Between the pipes, Andrew Freeman made 16 saves for the win.

For Great Lakes, Mitch Mergel scored both goals and Colin Walsh and Jeff LaBaere combined for 30 saves in goal.

At the Edge Ice Arena, MWJHL leading scorer Nick Murphy tallied twice and added a helper as the Soo Firehawks beat the Holland River Bandits 5-3.

Lucas McLeod, in his first game with the Firehawks, Ryan Marshall and Anthony Laaksonen also scored to back goaltender Brandon Hansen‘s 31 saves.

Alex Devries had a goal and assist for Holland, while Bailey Rietman and Harry Braafhart also scored.

In goal, John Posler and Brendon Hanser combined for 48 stops.

The Bloomington Jr. Blaze erased a 4-1 deficit with a four-goal third period to stun the Rhinelander Street Cats 5-4 at the Rhinelander Ice Arena.

Patrick Anaruk scored twice in the third as the Jr. Blaze scored their four goals in a span in just 4:52.

Matt Donley had a goal and an assist for Bloomington and newly-signed Drew Daley chipped in a pair of assists.

Sherman Lovett and Kyler Schmor also scored and Gavin Carlson turned aside 36 shots in goal.

Nick Fleming led the Rhinelander attack with two goals, while Aleksandr Ilin tallied a goal and an assist and Todd Huotari picked up two helpers.

Dylan Farmer also scored and Spencer Brasswell and Rushan Guinuillin combined to make 31 stops in the Rhinelander net.
