Indiana Ice Game Moved to University of Notre Dame

April 14th contest against Des Moines Buccaneers to be played at Compton Family Ice Arena

Due to a scheduling conflict at their home rink, Pepsi Coliseum, the Indiana Ice will be moving their final USHL regular season game on Saturday, April 14th against the Des Moines Buccaneers to the Compton Family Ice Arena on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Game time will be 7:05 p.m. (EST).

Compton Family Ice Arena is the brand new home of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish hockey team after opening in October 2011. The open-concourse arena fits approximately 5,000 fans in the seats and concourse area.

The USHL has played a significant role on the Fighting Irish roster as 19 of their current players spent time previously in the nation’s only Tier 1 junior hockey league.

The Ice and Buccaneers are both represented in South Bend as the 2011-12 Irish roster features former Indy forward Peter Schneider and former Des Moines forward T.J. Tynan. Schneider is a freshman on this year’s team, while Tynan is a sophomore forward who finished the year tied for first in the CCHA in scoring.

The Notre Dame roster also includes 2010 Clark Cup Playoff MVP Anders Lee (Green Bay) and 2009-10 USHL Goaltender of the Year Steven Summerhays (Green Bay).

With the Ice arena being upgraded over the next two years, could this be a temporary home for the Ice? It seems as though the relationship is there, and you couldnt ask for a better scouting location.
