Jr. Blues forward Skibba makes NCAA DI commitment

The Springfield Jr. Blues, members of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), are proud to announce that forward Brett Skibba has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of Connecticut of the Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) for the fall of 2013.

Skibba, who is from from Verona, Wisconsin, is the Jr. Blues leading scorer this season with 24 goals and 21 assists for 45 points in 46 games played. Back in January, Skibba (5’11/185) was selected to represent the Jr. Blues at the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, where he will play this upcoming week as a part of the Midwest team.

Skibba, 19, was selected as the NAHL’s North Division player of the week back on October 15th. This is his second season playing in the NAHL. Skibba has had 14 multi-point games to date, including two hat-tricks, the latest of which came last weekend in a loss to Kalamazoo.

“Brett has bought into the things that are going to make him improve and make his team successful,” said Jr. Blues head coach Tony Zasowski. “He really works hard to get the puck and will shoot from anywhere. He plays really good two-way hockey which translates into offensive success. I am very excited for Brett. He came into the season in great shape and with a great attitude. He got off to a great start and has been our most consistent scorer. Brett has earned everything he got and I am excited to watch his excel at UConn.”
