Matt Wiedenhoeft Joins TJHN and Hockey Talent Management July 4, 2012 6:29 AM

Matt Wiedenhoeft, has joined TJHN as a content provider and is part of the junior & college hockey family advisor team at Hockey Talent Management. Matt makes his way to the organization after a year hiatus from the hockey scene. He is coming back to the sport and business that continues to drive his passion to compete and assist young players to achieve their goals.

Matt has been in the hockey business for over a decade, at multiple levels and capacities. As a player Matt was on the 2003 ACHA Division III National Championship team.

From here Matt went to numerous free agent camps for the CHL and UHL to make a team. He eventually got an invite from the Muskegon Fury, who sent him to a newly formed single ‘A’ league. From here Matt continued through the free agent camps not understanding how to get to the next level without an agent or contacts.

In 2005, during the NHL lockout, Matt hired his agent who sent him to the Asheville Aces of the SPHL. The following season, he was sent the UHL’s Richmond Riverdogs, where recorded four-assists in two games before leaving for home on his own choice. He would later sign with the Pee Dee Cyclones of the SPHL, before retiring from pro hockey. His family was more important than pursuing a playing career thousands of miles away any longer.

He did continue to play in competitive semi-pro leagues close to residence of Michigan, while maintaining businesses he co-founded and operated. As well as playing, he was the assistant coach of the Muskegon Community College Hawks for two seasons 2005 – 2007, before the demise of the program.

It was in 2008 when Matt received his first professional coaching position with the Battle Creek Revolution of the AAHL. In 2009 Matt entered his second season as the Detroit Hitmen/West Michigan Blizzard coaching position.

Matt was brought on as the Associate Head Coach of the Muskegon Community College Hawks newly started program in 2010 – 2011. He would eventually take on the Head Coaching position by the mid-season, leading the team to a 9-7 record with a team left with only half a roster after Christmas break.

Matt has been married to his wife, Gina, for over seven years. Together they have three children (Landon-7, Noelle-5, Paxton-20 mos). He graduated with a 3.63 GPA from Baker College with a BBA-Accounting, and is wrapping up with MBA in Strategic Management at Davenport University (4.0 GPA).

Mr. Wiedenhoeft conducts all of his business relationships with ethics, morals, and integrity. His goal as an advisor is the same as a he maintained as a coach – assist players in moving up the ladder to achieve their maximum potential and goals.
