DETROIT MI:

The Midwest Junior Hockey League, proud member of the AAU completed its final step in forming organizational meeting held at the Westin in Detroit, Michigan established itself to begin play during the weekend of September 14, 2012 with fourteen founding member teams and four probationary members.

Probationary members have until June 30, 2012 to complete league expansion process and board member approval to begin play in the MWJHL inaugural season. The fourteen founding member teams are:

Bloomington Jr. Blaze Kankakee Kingfish
Cincinnati Stache Lake Erie Steelheads
Dayton Aeros Michigan Ice Dogs
Erie Blizzard NWO Grrrowl (Toledo, Oh)
Great Lakes Lightning Soo Firehawks
Hartland Hounds Tennyson Chevrolet
Holland River Bandits Traverse City Cohos

MWJHL members have made a commitment to player development, advancement and maintaining a high level operation to achieve sustainable and profitable markets. Each member is required to adhere to specific operating regulations including monthly operational and financial reporting with an emphasis of player and fan development.

The league will play a total of 50 league games in its inaugural season in several minor league professional arenas including the 7800 seat US Cellular Arena home of the CHL’s Bloomington Blaze, 5500 seat Hara Arena home of the Dayton Devils of the Federal Hockey League and Huntington Bank Arena with a seating capacity of 8,000 and home to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.

“The divisional alignment of the league and schedule will be completed on July 8, 2012 when the Board of Governors reconvene in Chicago, IL and will most likely have 18 member teams to start our inaugural season,” says Patrick Pylypuik, interim MWJHL Commissioner.

The MWJHL league office will be headquartered in Sylvania, Ohio that will consist of six full time employees to support members vision and objectives. The league office will support its member teams with several long-term sustainability initiatives including MWJHL Properties creating league wide licensing arrangements, and centralized ticket sales and corporate sponsorship operation. “Corporate Partnerships have exceeded league expectations to date substantiated by the fact of the three, and five year sponsorship deals already signed. Each corporate partner believes in the league members’ vision agreeing to support the league long term,” says Patrick Pylypuik, interim Commissioner.

Player development and advancement will be led by a hockey player development advisory board consisting of retired NCAA and NHL players including Blaine Stoughton, Paul Lawless with several more to be announced over the course of the next two months. Each team’s coaching staff is required to produce tangible results documented and shared with each player through an individual progress scorecard. Our hockey operations initiative is very straightforward of developing player skill sets on and off the ice providing each player every opportunity to advance their careers.

Over the next three weeks, expect several announcements including player signings, several league wide standards around player development, advancement, education and job creation.
