NAHL Franchise Moves

The British Columbia Hockey League has denied the Wenatchee Wild a franchise for 2012-2013, and the Wild will continue to play in the North American Hockey League next season.

The BCHL denied the bid because it had already set its divisional alignment and rules pertaining to rosters and on-ice play in January, a press release from the Wild said.

The Wild will be back in the NAHL for the 2012 season and are preparing for 2013 in the BCHL.

In the mean time the NAHL is looking to add more teams out west. This would assist other teams in the transition of Wenatchee to the BCHL. Looking at locations, one would have to consider Tacoma Washington a prime target.

Although Wenatchee will not be moved to Johnstown this year, it does look as though another franchise will make the move. The Springfield Jr. Blues have long been rumored to be on the move and this would look to be the most likely candidate.

With Wenatchee staying in the NAHL it also looks as though Dawson Creek will stay for one more season. Should another team be added to the NAHL in the western United States it may also sway the Fresno Monsters to return.

Travel is the greatest concern for all team in the west. With the Wenatchee franchise coming back and the potential addition of another travel partner, the western teams should feel better about next season. As TJHN reported in February, it is expected that the NAHL will return the same amount of franchises as the league has this season
