NAHL update

As reported by TJHN a month ago, the NAHL is alive and well. Although seven teams filed for dormancy, it looks as though the league will return its 28 teams with some possible relocations.

The Fresno Monsters will play in the North American Hockey League next season, rather than go dormant as was previously announced.

Monsters Vice President/Media Relations Director Mark Haupt said, "The reason for filing for dormancy was due to issues within our division with regards to travel, Those issues have now been taken care of, so the Monsters removed the dormancy status."

Wenatchee Wild are back in the NAHL for another season as well, after the BCHL denied entry for the 2012-2013 season.

Dawson Creek has not been able to obtain an Alberta Leage franchise and will also return.

St. Louis or Sprinfield is expected to relocate to Johnstown as TJHN reported a week ago. This item will most likely be decided once playoffs have ended.

The Michigan Warriors are coming back as announced last week.

Only one team in Alaska is still in limbo. Sources have said the "Pacific North West" is where they may relocated. Wenatchee Wild Owner Bill Stewart has also publicly stated that a travel partner withing six hours of Wenatchee is where they would like to see the team relocated. Tacoma is one rumored location, Salem Oregon has also been mentioned. Salem is the home of the Southern Oregon Spartans of the NorPAC Junior Hockey League, a team headed for Tier III nationals with a top notch organization already in place.

The NAHL, like every other league including the NHL will have some operations that struggle and some that need to be relocated. The strength of the league lies within its personel, their ability to problem solve and adapt to changing hockey and business climates. Clearly the NAHL has that ability from top to bottom.
