New Mexico Mustangs NAHL to Replace Texas Brahmas in CHL?

Another leak out of USA Hockey Junior Council has stated that the New Mexico Mustangs will, as reported at TJHN in December, be moving to North Richland Hills Texas and be re-named the Texas Brahmas.

NYTEX Sports Center seats 2400 for hockey and is very well situated for the NAHL footprint.

The Brahmas in the CHL have averaged over 2000 a night this season. Sources within the CHL have yet to confirm this will be the end of CHL hockey in North Richland Hills. NYTEX does not have enough dates or a large enough facility to house a professional and junior franchise.

Averaging 2000 a night is not enough to support a CHL budget, it is enough to support the NAHL budget. That is if the team can keep its fan base satisfied with the level of play. Nearly every team moving from pro hockey to junior over the lasty few season has experienced a drop in attendance numbers after the move. Some teams have not recovered the fans lost, some have.

Is North Richland Hills the location? Possibly. No matter what, the Mustangs are out of the gate in New Mexico.

Stay tuned for more expansion and relocation news.
