Objections to Soo Eagles move to NAHL

TJHN has learned that obejections are being submitted to USA Hockey’s Junior Council prior to its meeting next wednesday to vote on moving the Traverse City North Stars franchise to Sault Ste. Marie Michigan.

These objections are being made by other USA Hockey team owners and Michigan Amature Hockey Association members. Deatils and the basis of the objections have not been disclosed on the record, although several sources involved have indicated that they are aware of the objections.

Should the objections be presented, and prove successful, the NAHL franchise will not be allowed to move.

One objection TJHN can verify will come from the Great Lakes Junior Hockey League. The GLJHL presented an application to relocate one of its existing franchises to the Soo before the Eagles attempted to purchase the North Stars. USAH’s Junior Council denied the move of the franchise. The concept of approving another franchise move for the NAHL and not approving the GLJHL move could prove problematic. The real issue is that the GLJHL has life long residents and hockey connected people owning the proposed franchise, while the Eagles are not locally owned.

Information is being circulated to Soo area business owners describing the situation and they have been asked to voice their support for the GLJHL local ownership group. TJHN read the letter intended for business owners last night, it is a powerful letter and could prove effective.

If USAH approves this move for the NAHL and does not subsequently approve the GLJHL franchise move, it is expected that legal proceedings will be initiated.
