Opole HK – Brent Vandenbergh Joins For 2021-2022

Opole HK has added a little more international influence to the teams for the 2021-2022 season. Belgian born goaltender has signed with Opole HK for the 2021-2022 season.

Already this season Opole HK will have players from Poland, the United States, Canada, Scotland and now Belgium. More countries are likely to be added to the coming season roster in Opole. Last season Opole HK had players from the United States, Canada, Scotland, and Switzerland.

“I spoke quite a bit to the Vandenbergh family last season while we were dealing with the pandemic and travel restrictions. We couldn’t get Brent in at that time, and he spent most of last season practicing in the BeNe Liga with Sharks Mechelen.” Said Opole HK Owner/General Manager Joseph Kolodziej “Brent is a developing young goalie who shows a lot of promise. We are going to get him right into things this year and see where he is, and how practicing in the professional league helped develop his game.”

BeNe Liga is the top professional league shared by Belgium and the Netherlands. Last season, the BeNe Liga did not play any games though teams were allowed to practice all winter. Typically you can find many former NCAA Division I and III players in the league and it is not uncommon to find ECHL veterans. It is considered a very good league by scouts.

“While Brent may not have been in games last season, practicing with professionals that in some cases ten years or more older than you, is going to make you a better player.” Said Opole HK Head Coach Brad Zangs “Our goaltenders this year are going to compete every day for the net in games.”

“Brent is a good young goaltender and I am looking forward to working with him.” Said Assistant/Goaltending Coach Pat Schwartz “The competition is going to be very good with our group every day. Everyone will get opportunities to grow and have success.”

Opole HK finished in second place during its first season in 2020-2021. Looking to build on that success and win a championship this year, Opole HK is out scouting and adding players who want to compete at the highest level of Junior hockey in Europe. Opole HK has also joined the European University Hockey League for 2021-2022 in order to add more games to the schedule, and give players the opportunity to play in several other countries.

Opole HK is looking for a limited number of Forwards and Defense along with one Goaltender for the 2021-2022 season.
