Opole HK EUHL Opening Weekend

Opole HK is embarking on another challenge in the European University Hockey League during the 2021-2022 season.

Traveling to Opole tonight is HC Uniza from Slovakia, and Sunday will see Sapientia 23 arrive in Opole all the way from Romania.

“Part of the draw for entering Opole HK into the EUHL was the international competition. The fact that our players are attending classes on line from seven different countries gives us a unique opportunity to give them a college hockey experience while seeing Europe and gaining exposure to professional scouts from all across Europe.” Said Opole HK Owner and General Manager Joseph Kolodziej

“With teams in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Poland, we can offer players a great exposure opportunity along with a great educational experience. Opole Polytech offers our players an opportunity to attend classes only one block away from the arena and within short walking distance of our housing.”

The EUHA founded the league in November 2013 as the first regular international university hockey league in Europe.  Since its foundation, more than 29 university teams from 9 Member States of the European Union (Slovakia, Czechia, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia and Romania) participated in the EUHL. Vision of the EUHL is to build a strong all-European league with larger number of participating countries and teams (Austria, Germany, Sweden, Finland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Slovenia, Latvia, Estonia, etc.) divided into divisions  within the area of max. 700 kilometers in order to decrease travel and other costs.

Regular university hockey league that would supplement educational and sport system in Europe was missing until foundation of the EUHL, making it a unique and pioneer project in the European geographical area.  Organizing this league ensures students – athletes have more opportunities in their dual careers.

“When it comes to life experiences, education, and competition, the EUHL offers more for student athletes across the board than what we are used to in North America.” Continued Kolodziej “While not everyone is going to be an NCAA Division One athlete, a great college hockey experience can be had in Europe now. A great education for a lot less money than in North America is available to everyone who dreams of getting their degree and potentially playing professionally in Europe. It really is an ideal path to make both of those things happen.”

Opole HK also plays in the Polish MHL/1st League, the highest development league in Poland. Offering two game and playoff schedules giving players an opportunity to compete, and see the world while working on their education. For more information visit Http://opolehk.com
