With the COVID-19 Pandemic creating so much uncertainty in North America for the upcoming 2020-2021 junior hockey season, a new program in Europe was launched six weeks ago.
A team for North American players, will call Opole Poland home for the 2020-2021 season.
Why would any Canadian or American player wait for an uncertain start to their season? The Opole HK season begins on August 24th with training camp and September 11th with regular season games.
Why would anyone pay to practice until October, November or December when they could be playing games in September? Why would any player risk his season on “proposed” start dates when you can have a guaranteed start to your season?
A 3000 seat arena allowing for social distancing of fans, coupled with exclusive player only housing, player only dining facilities, on site fitness facilities, and a limited public access environment allow for an unprecedented safe training and living environment for selected players.
Arena seating allows for up to 1500 fans to watch games while wearing masks. and with safe social distancing measures in place. In the event of a return of the Coronavirus, the unit becomes a fully self contained training environment allowing for the continuation of the season without fans.
Opole HK is a fully sanctioned member of the Polish MHL. The highest level junior league in the country.
Opole HK will play against thirteen other Polish teams as well as teams from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and Ukraine. Other countries are also looking to add Opole HK to their schedule as travel will allow.
