Pickering Panthers’ Aidan Wallace signed by Oshawa Generals

Aidan Wallace will be pulling double-duty for the rest of the season.

The 17-year-old forward will be playing out the rest of the season with his Pickering Panthers, but when they aren’t in action, he is likely to get the callup to the Oshawa Generals. He is expected to join the Generals full-time when the Panthers season ends on Feb. 23.

The Markham resident had his rights traded from the London Knights to the Oshawa Generals in December. An original sixth round pick of the Knights in 2011, the Generals obtained Wallace for a conditional 15th-round pick. Reports are that the pick will be upgraded to a sixth rounder now that he has signed with the Generals.

Wallace made his debut with the Generals Jan. 17 in Barrie, picking up a minor penalty in a 3-2 shootout loss. He was in the lineup the following night at the General Motors Centre as the Generals hosted Kingston, winning 6-1.

“Aidan is a hard-working player that can play either left wing or centre and is a very good two-way player that plays our style of game,” commented Generals general manager Jeff Twohey on the club’s website when they acquired Wallace.

In 40 games this season with the Panthers, Wallace has 9-9-18 point totals.

One of his season highlights came in November, when he was selected to play in the CJHL Prospects Game in Nova Scotia, where he was named the East Player of the Game after scoring twice and adding two assists in the second of two games. The CJHL Prospects Game was created to showcase the top 40 NHL draft-eligible players in the Canadian Junior Hockey League, pitting the stars of the east against the west in a two-game, total-goals series.

In another prospects game during the Christmas holidays in Wellington, Wallace scored in overtime to lift the OJHL over the CCHL 4-3. The OJHL prospects team was coached by the staff of the Pickering Panthers.
