QMJHL’s PEI Rocket To Announce Name Change Tonight September 21, 2012 7:40 AM

Fans will find out Friday night what the new name of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team will be next season.

The P.E.I. Rocket will announce the winner of their rename your team contest during the first intermission of the team’s home opener against the Moncton Wildcats. The three finalists, in no particular order, were Islanders, Riptide and Confederation. Voting ended Wednesday and staff tabulated the results Thursday. More than 6,000 votes were cast.

Insiders would not give a direct comment on which name was leading, but did say it was between two names. The name change won’t take affect until the 2013-14 season.

The rebranding effort is taking place in conjunction with the team’s 10th season in Charlottetown. TJHN is would vote for the "Islanders".
