Sale of Odessa Jackalopes moving forward

Less than a year after the Odessa Jackalopes switched leagues and moved into the junior hockey ranks, the club is in the process of being sold to a group spearheaded by former Jackalopes players.

The ownership group that is buying the team includes former Jackalopes players Adam Doyle, Donnie Margettie, Brian Swiniarski and Dan Lavergne, along with four investors from Midland.

The final purchase has yet to be completed, but Jacks co-owner Rick Gasser said on Thursday that the process is in motion and in a few days he along with co-owners Bill and Tracey Nyborg will no longer own the team.

The Jacks will take on Corpus Christi in the first of two home games this weekend at the Ector County Coliseum as they continue their first season in the North American Hockey League.

Gasser said he first talked to Doyle and Swiniarski a few months ago, and the process started from there.

Doyle said the move was the right fit for the partners in the ownership group, and it’s happening at the right time, adding they all want to keep the team in the area.

Gasser said he wouldn’t have considered selling the team unless he knew the new group would keep the team in the Permian Basin.

Nothing is expected to change in regards to the front office or bench personnel.
