Telus Cup Update

The 2012 Telus Cup will be Canada’s 34th annual national midget ‘AAA’ hockey championship, to be played April 23–29, 2012 at Leduc, Alberta. The tournament will consist of five regional champions and the host team, the Leduc Oil Kings.

The Telus Cup is seen as a Major Junior Hockey scouting must see series. This season will be no different for Major Junior Scouts, but should offer a new level of US based scouting participation. TJHN has learned that representative from several US based teams will be sending scouts to get early looks at some of the top Canadian Midget players.

One scout speaking anonymously had this to say; "When you have players like Jordan Eberle who participated in this event only six years ago, you had better attend and try to identify that type of player as early as possible. Although our scouting budgets are limited, we are using those budgets to identify players as early as possible."

Numerous players have gone on to have great Major Junior and NHL careers, many of them now will be seeing offers to come to US based Junior and NCAA programs.

The 2013 Telus CUp has been awarded to host city Sault Ste. Marie Canada.
