Ummmmmm yeah. Now this is really a kick in the freakin balls. Contrary to what some may think, its stories like this that I don’t like writing. Seriously, I really don’t like writing about a free to play junior team folding up shop in a league like the Manitoba league.
Its time though. The Opaskwayak Cree Nation Blizzard will be folding at the end of this season. The news was given to the league the other day and made public.

Yeah well, some people refuse to pull their heads out of their asses and recognize that free to play hockey is no longer viable under a business model that was designed in the 1950’s. You know like when everything to play averaged ten bucks to purchase.
But hey, “we don’t want to charge players to play” is the cry across central and western Canada. We want to try to rely on corporate support and dwindling ticket sales. Yep, we want to do that while all the other costs continue to go up. Sounds like a plan to me.
News flash for Canada. Someone needs to pay for hockey. If your business model isn’t working, yeah, it might be time to change your business model. Ohhhhhhh shit, that same news flash should be read by the USHL and NAHL in the United States.
But hey, this holiday season more people will be able to put their heads in the snow instead of the sand. Yep, lets just continue to ignore that fact that the people at the top making all the hockey decisions really don’t have a clue about how to pay for those hockey decisions.
Hey though, I got to run and finish my holiday shopping. Now where can I find some of those Northwood sticks that were on sale for $12, some shouldies for $8, and some new wheels for $20? Ohhhhhhhh shit yeah, break out the time machine baby lets get that bitch fired up! While I am at it I am going to place a bet on the Cubs World Series too!
