The Northeast Junior Hockey League

Out of the ashes of the International Junior Hockey League comes the Northeast Junior Hockey league.

By all accounts, the independent IJHL has folded and several key members have started the NJHL and look to add new teams for the 2012-2013 campaign. While the IJHL was independent, the NJHL has stated they will be playing under AAU Sanctioning, and will participate in the 2013 AAU National Championships.

In a league statement the NJHL released the following:

The Northeast Junior Hockey League, a new elite Junior A hockey league playing under the AAU umbrella, has announced it will begin play September 2012. Led by League Commissioner, John Messuri, a Princeton graduate and the all-time leading scorer at the Ivy League School, The Northeast Junior Hockey League will also be eligible to play in the AAU National Championship to be held in the Spring of 2013. As of now, there are 7 teams (negotiations with other teams are ongoing). The teams are: The Cape Cod Islanders, The New England Stars, The Junior Mariners, The Eastern Kodiaks, The Trenton Habs, The Syracuse Stampede, and a To Be Determined Team in upstate New York. "I am very excited to be named the Commissioner of the Northeast Junior Hockey League. The team owners and coaches saw an opportunity to form an elite league and jumped at it. I am honored they even considered me for the job, but to be named Commissioner and be part of this at the ground level is truly amazing. We are all looking forward to getting under way." Stay tuned for further details. For more information, please contact League Commissioner John Messuri at 781-507-4909 or email him at
