Three Granite City players make NCAA plans

The Granite City Lumberjacks, proud members of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL), are pleased to announce three recent NCAA commitments.

Defenseman Matt Petersen has committed to NCAA Division III Gustavus Adolphus College (MIAC). Defenseman Isaac Hoagland have committed to the University of Wisconsin-Stout (NCHA) and forward Alex Koopmeiners has committed to Concordia College (MIAC).

Petersen, 20, is in his first season with the Lumberjacks after spending a portion of last season with the Odessa Jackalopes in the NAHL. The native of Center City, MN, has had a very productive year this far for Granite City as he is the team’s highest scoring defenseman with 17 points in 22 games played.

Hoagland, 20, is in his second season with the Lumberjacks after leading them to the NA3HL Championship last season. Known as a defensive defenseman, Hoagland is on pace for a career season, which includes his current +20 mark after being at an even 0 last season. In 29 games, the Menomonie, WI native has recorded five points, two shy of his career high of seven set last season.

Koopmeiners, 20, is a three year junior hockey veteran, who has previously spent time in the NAHL and the MJHL in Canada. He has flourished in Granite City this season as the St. Cloud, MN native has recorded 18 points in 24 games and is a +8. Koopmeiners is currently playing some of his best hockey of the year as he has five points in his last games.
