TJHN Mock Draft Results June 25, 2012 8:18 AM

On Thursday TJHN posted its mock draft board. Friday held some surprises, and some expected results. TJHN predicted a massive run on defense, which took place very early. Below is our list of picks as we projected them and their actual position drafted:

1. EDMONTON: Nail Yakupov, RW, Sarnia (OHL) – Wasnt too hard to predict this one.

2. COLUMBUS: Filip Forsberg, RW, Leksand (SWE) – Tremendous slide to Washington Caps at 11

3. MONTREAL: Alex Galchenyuk, C, Sarnia (OHL) – Another accurate pick

4. N.Y. ISLANDERS: Matt Dumba, D, Red Deer (WHL) – Slid to 7th as the Isles like Rielly a little more.

5. TORONTO: Pick: Ryan Murray, D, Everett (WHL) – Went a little higher than projected at number 2.

6. ANAHEIM: Morgan Rielly, D, Moose Jaw (WHL) – Toronto took him at 5 when Murray was gone.

7. MINNESOTA: Mikhail Grigorenko, C, Quebec (QMJHL) – Dumba fell to them and they will be happy he did.

8. CAROLINA: Teuvo Teravainen, LW, Jokerit (FIN) – Pittsburgh got the pick here in the trade, continuing the defensive run with Derrick Pouliot.

9. WINNIPEG: Griffin Reinhart, D, Edmonton (WHL)- with Reinhart gone early at 4, the Jets take Jacob Trouba.

10. TAMPA: Andrei Vasilevski, G, Ufa (RUS) – Tampa changes its mind and goes blue line with Slater Koekkoek.

11. WASHINGTON: Jacob Trouba, D, U.S. under-18 (NTDP) – With Trouba gone Washington gets the gift of Filip Forsberg falling.

12. BUFFALO: Radek Faksa, C, Kitchener (OHL) – The run on defense makes the Sabres much better as Mikhail Grigorenko falls to them. TJHN had him ranked as the number 2 center available in this draft class.

13. DALLAS: Matthew Finn, D, Guelph (OHL) – Although needing defense, with Radek Faksa on the board, the Stars take BPA.

14. CALGARY:Derrick Pouliot, D, Portland (WHL) – With Pouliot gone to Tampa 6 picks earlier, a trade with Buffalo, and the Sabres grab Zemgus Girgensons, an under rated USHL player and TJHN’s 4th ranked center.

15. OTTAWA: Sebastian Collberg, D, Frolunda (SWE) – Cody Ceci moved up on the board with the early run on defense, he will be a solid player for a long time.

16. WASHINGTON: Olli Maatta, D, London (OHL) – looks like they forgot defense was a problem last season and took Tom Wilson.

17. SAN JOSE: Cody Ceci, D, Ottawa (OHL) – With Ceci gone two picks earlie San Jose takes a leap on Tomas Hertl who is at least 3 years away from being NHL ready.

18. CHICAGO: Slater Koekkoek, D, Peterborough (OHL) – With Koekkoek going earlier to Tampa, Teuvo Teravainen falls to the Hawks, he will help soon.

19. TAMPA: Hampus Lindholm, D, Rogle (SWE) – Going number 6 over all was one of the drafts surprises, but Tampa takes Andrei Vasilevski, G, Ufa (RUS) as TJHN predicted just a little later.

20. PHILADELPHIA: Thomas Wilson, RW, Plymouth (OHL) – With Wilson gone Scott Laughton is the BPA pick.

21. BUFFALO: Brendan Gaunce, C, Belleville (OHL) – this pick went to Calgary in the earlier trade, and the Flames take Mark Jankowski from Stanstead College in Quebec, going completely off the board.

22. PITTSBURGH: Scott Laughton, C, Oshawa (OHL) – Having addressed defense in the trade and earlier pick they add another good one in Olli Maatta.

23. FLORIDA: Dalton Thrower, D, Sasktoon (WHL) – Florida valued Michael Matheson just a little more and he climbed up a few spots.

24. BOSTON: Zemgus Girgensons, C, Dubuque (USHL) – Having gone to the Sabres early, the B’s go with a prospect in Malcolm Subban to secure the pipes.

25. ST. LOUIS: Martin Frk, RW, Halifax (QMJHL) – Jordan Schmaltz continues the run on defense.

26. VANCOUVER: Mike Matheson, D, Dubuque (USHL) – With Matheson off to Florida, the Canucks take advantage of Calgarys off the board pick and grab Brendan Gaunce.

27. PHOENIX: Stefan Matteau, LW, U.S. under-18 (NTDP) – Henrik Samuelsson goes one pick earlier than projected.

28. N.Y. RANGERS: Henrik Samuelsson, RW, Edmonton (WHL) – Brady Skjei rises up into the first round continuing the defensive pattern.

29. NEW JERSEY: Oscar Dansk, G, Brynas (SWE) – droping down two spots Stefan Matteau is the BPA pick.

30. LOS ANGELES: Colton Sissons, C, Kelowna (WHL) – Tanner Pearson is pinally picked in his third year of eligibility.

All in all TJHN had some good results in its first mock draft. HOw does your mock draft compare?
