US National Junior Team Loaded With USHL Experience

22 of 29 players selected to the preliminary roster have played in the USHL

USA Hockey today announced a preliminary roster of 29 players vying for a spot on the U.S. National Junior Team that will compete at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, December 26-January 5 in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta. Among the 29 players are 22 that have experience playing in the USHL.

On the roster is 2010-11 USHL Rookie of the Year John Gaudreau who is playing his freshman season at Boston College, a pair of former Des Moines Buccaneers players, T.J. Tynan and Connor Brickley, along with two defensemen currently playing in the USHL for Team USA, Jacob Trouba and Seth Jones.

The head coach for the U.S. team is Dean Blais who helped the squad earn gold at the 2010 tournament. Blais was the 2008-09 USHL Coach of the Year while leading the Fargo Force during their inaugural USHL season.

The preliminary roster will gather for a pre-tournament camp on December 17th in Camrose, Alberta and the final 22-player roster will be announced on December 22nd. The U.S. team has won medals in each of the last two years at the IIHF World Junior Championship (bronze in 2011 and gold in 2010).
