WSHL RETURNS TO COLD LAKE, ALBERTA FOR THE 2019-2020 SEASON
The Western States Hockey League is excited to announce that “AGAIN” this season the WSHL will continue competition in the Energy Centre in Cold Lake. The WSHL on July 4th, signed a multi-year user agreement with the City of Cold Lake for the teams continued operation in the Energy Centre. The team with local Cold Lake residents participating in ownership of the team look to bring another year of exciting Junior A ice hockey to Cold Lake. The season will begin mid-October with the final schedule announced within the next few weeks. The team will not play under the name “Wings” as was used last season. The name for the team will be announced shortly. With the addition of Cold Lake the WSHL Provincial Division will include teams in Hinton, Edson, Barrhead, Meadow Lake, Cold Lake. The WSHL season starting in mid-October goes through Mid-April with the conclusion of the league championship “Thorne Cup”. Included in the season is the WSHL College Showcase over December 17-21. In last years showcase over 130 colleges/universities were in attendance. The WSHL is currently working with a strong local volunteer base of billets, game day operations, administrative staff which are returning to support not only the WSHL but the new team. Coaching staff and General Manager will be named shortly now that the agreement with the City has been concluded. Commissioner Ron White would like to thank the City Council and Staff that worked on the agreement in a very short span of time.
