Petruzzelli Commits To University of Vermont November 5, 2012 8:20 AM
Anthony Petruzzelli, a forward from Federal Way, Wash., and the 2011-12 rookie of the year in the Alberta Junior Hockey League has committed to joining the University of Vermont men’s hockey team in the fall of 2014.
Petruzzelli, 5-10 and 180, plays for the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He leads in the Bandits in goals scored with 15 and is second in points with 26. Brooks is leading the South Division of the AJHL with an 18-0-0 record.
A year ago, the 19-year-old Petruzzelli collected 23 goals and 47 points in 59 games for Brooks. He scored four game-winning goals and was second in the league in power play goals with 14. He was named the AJHL rookie of the year after the 2011-12 season.
Prior to joining the Bandits, he played two seasons with the Helena (Mont.) Bighorns, netting 46 goals and 101 points in 48 games. Petruzzelli was also named the rookie of the league that season and the Bighorns won a national championship.
