Lumberjacks raise over $5,000 for the Johnson Family Cancer Center
MUSKEGON, Michigan (February 14th) – The Muskegon Lumberjacks are proud to announce that they were able to raise $5,126 to be donated to the Johnson Family Cancer Center in Muskegon during the annual “Jacks Fight Cancer” game on Saturday, January 19th against the Indiana Ice.
“The Johnson Family Cancer Center would like to thank the Lumberjacks organization for their efforts off the ice as well as on. By expanding their game off the ice, the Lumberjacks have done a great deal to benefit and honor our patients and their families,” said Dr. Nina Johnson, Radiation Oncologist and Radiation Medical Director of the Johnson Family Cancer Center. “The Johnson Family Cancer Center appreciates all of the hard work and planning that is involved with this event and is grateful to be chosen to be a part of this team effort on behalf of our community. We continue to strive to deliver exceptional, comprehensive, state of the art care to the Lakeshore.”
Fans were able to donate in numerous ways throughout the week of the game that included filling out purple ribbon care cards; donating a ticket to a local hospice volunteer, employee, patient, or family member; or purchasing a limited-edition “Jacks Fight Cancer” t-shirt. A silent auction was also held throughout the week for a pink kayak donated by Sun Dolphin along with a post-game live auction of the special-edition purple jerseys the players wore during the game.
Each Lumberjacks player was also playing in honor of loved ones whose lives have been affected by cancer, and fans were able to have their loved ones recognized in a special extended starting line-up and program insert. The team, front office staff, and fans were able to sign a special banner that was displayed on the concourse during the game and dropped off to the Johnson Family Cancer Center for the patients.
“It was amazing to see how our community pulled together on one special night to support such a great cause and the Johnson Family Cancer Center,” said Community Relations Manager Andrea Clancy. “I’m looking forward to planning next year’s game already, and our organization will strive to do whatever it takes to make each ‘Jacks Fight Cancer’ night bigger and better.”
Glamazon Artistic Hair Culture was also in attendance and provided haircuts to ten women who wanted to donate their hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program for cancer patients who have lost their hair due to rigorous chemotherapy treatments.
The Johnson Family Cancer Center attended the game along with the American Cancer Society and supporters for the annual Sandy Corley Memorial Run that takes place this coming June in Rothbury, Michigan.
