Wildcats defenseman Knudson made NCAA DI commitment

By Drew Pelto, Wichita Falls Wildcats

The number of NCAA Division I recruits currently skating with the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), has now increased to five, as defenseman Chris Knudson announced last night that he will join the Michigan State Spartans in the Big Ten in the 2013-14 season.

“My pee-wee coach played for Michigan State, so we used to visit there every year,” Chris said about his choice. “Ever since then, I wanted to play there, so this is really a dream come true.”

Knudson, 19, has been solid on the Wildcats’ blue line this year after being picked up in trade from Wenatchee in September. He has been a minutes eater and major shutdown blueliner, and has chipped in nicely at the offensive end, putting up 3 goals and 7 assists for 10 points in 45 games as a Wildcat.

Last season with Wenatchee, Chris had a pair of goals– both being game-winners– along with 13 assists. Of his 13 assists, 10 came either on the powerplay or shorthanded. He also had four assists in eight playoff games.
