The goal for forward Caden Wells, was getting to play hockey at the college level and with hard work and determination he has earned himself an NCAA Division III commitment to Bowdoin College for the 2025-2026 season.
Wells, who started the season playing in the NAHL with the New Jersey Titans, just signed with the NCDC and is a proud member of the defending Dineen Cup Champion South Shore Kings. Wells has played two games with the Kings so far in the 2024-25 season and has tallied two assists.
“I decided to sign with the Kings because I wanted to be a part of a winning culture,” said Wells. “With the Kings coming off of a championship season and an unbelievable start to this season, it was an easy decision for me. All of the guys on the team have been extremely welcoming and I’ve loved my time here so far.”
Wells started his communication with the Bowdoin coaching staff around Christmas time last season and everything about it peaked his interest. The staff like how Wells was a “two-way center who paid attention to details all over the ice.”
“Everything about Bowdoin interested me when I first started to learn about it,” said Wells. “They had just won the NESCAC championship the year prior and made the NCAA tournament. Obviously, you want to be a part of a competitive and winning culture so this piqued my interest.”
When Wells stepped foot on the campus at Bowdoin, he knew it was the place for him as he felt a sense of welcome and knew he would thrive as a player in that environment. Academics have always been important for Wells and he knew he could get a top-notch education here. Wells is planning on majoring in economics and is open to expanding his interests while being there.
“As soon as I visited Bowdoin I knew that I wanted to go there,” said Wells. “The campus was beautiful and every person I ran into was extremely kind. The coaching staff and players made me feel so welcomed and that went a long way. On the academic front, Bowdoin is unbelievable. I have always valued my education and being able to pursue an education at a school such as Bowdoin is a blessing. Things such as small classes, good support from staff and students, and rigorous courses are things that interested me on the academic side of things.”
Wells is continuing to prepare for the college level every day and is working hard to get faster and stronger physically so he can perform to his best ability.
“I feel the best part of my game is being a two-way center,” said the native of Alberta. “I will always prioritize the defensive zone before everything else. I take a lot of pride in things like winning faceoffs and not being scored against. I also pride myself in being a pass-first guy and trying to make plays with my teammates.”
Wells is looking forward to finishing out this season with the Kings and is hoping to help them bring home another championship.
“I am extremely excited to play for the Kings this season,” said Wells. “I hope to help the team in any way I can and come out of this season with a championship.”
