With rumors swirling for weeks, it now looks as though the NAHL’s Texas Tornado franchise may finally be moving down the road to North Richland Hills Nytex Center.
Perhaps the worst kept secret in all of hockey has been that the Central Hockey Leagues Fort Worth Brahmas franchise was not going to participate in the 2013-2014 season. It is actually more likely that they will not participate in any CHL season after today.
In a carefully worded, yet artfully released story the CHL admitted on June 16th that the Brahmas would not be back. Making a release like this on Fathers Day, coupled with the fact it is a Sunday, was one way from keeping most news sources from reporting on the matter.
TJHN has also learned that Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong has already been in contact with players in the area. Players are reporting that Wildfong has said he will “likely” be the new head coach of the Tornado should the move to Nytex Center be approved. Several players were impressed by Wildfong and his expressed excitement about the NAHL move.
TJHN sources are also reporting that Tornado Coach Tony Curtale has been in contact with other NAHL franchises seeking employment. Though nothing official has been said, rumors are swirling that Curtale could be on the unemployment line at this point. How one of the most successful coaches in junior hockey history is could not be working in the NAHL next season is being received as a shock to many.
