Zamboni Driver Convicted Of Drunk Driving At Hockey Game

Stupid is as stupid does.

Back in February TJHN reported The Death Pool – Zamboni Driver Arrested For Drunk Driving – Yes It Happened

Well it turns out that Steven Anderson was convicted and sentenced to nine days in jail this week. The court also fined him $1,500 and ordered him to undergo a state-sponsored sobriety program.

The Defense most compelling or comical argument made depending on your point of view, was that they did not believe a Zamboni met the legal requirement of a “vehicle” under North Dakota State Law.

Yes, I know, Lawyers can argue anything.  Forget the fact that it’s a multi ton machine powered by a motor, that it has tires, and transports people.  Yes, the fact that it is a limited mode of utility vehicle, it is still a vehicle.

There are a few other cases of Zamboni drivers being charged with driving their machines while drunk. Two other examples can be found.  One man who was citied for drunk Zamboni-ing in Minneapolis in 2012, and one who was arrested for DWI in New Jersey in 2005.

Apparently it is not all that uncommon for a Zamboni driver to have a few while working.  Sounds like a job people would be lining up for.  Well until you have those random DUI check points at center ice.
