Joe Fiala commits to Quinnipiac Bobcats hockey August 29, 2012 8:35 AM

The Indiana Ice announced today that defenseman Joe Fiala has committed to playing college hockey at Quinnipiac University for Fall 2013. The Quinnipiac Bobcats are an NCAA Division I member of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Fiala becomes the third player with Ice ties to join the Bobcats’ ranks after Loren (08-09) and Alex (10-12) Barron both committed to the university following their stint in Indy. Ice ties also include former assistant coach Matt Plante, who skated with Quinnipiac from 1998-2002.

Entering his fourth USHL season, Fiala has been a solid stay-at-home defenseman for Indy, logging eight points (2G, 6A) during the 2011-2012 campaign. He also added two points (G, A) and a +4 plus-minus rating in six playoff games last season. Prior to joining the Indy roster, the Verona, WI native spent two seasons with the National Team Developmental Program in Ann Arbor, MI.

“Skating is a very big asset for Joe and we’re looking for him to make a big step in his offensive production this year. We’ll also maintain his defensive playing abilities,” said Indy head coach Ron Gay. “With his USHL experience, he has a lot to offer our younger incoming defensemen.”

The Indiana Ice open the 2012-2013 home campaign on Saturday, September 29 against the Omaha Lancers from Pan Am Plaza. General Admission tickets for Pan Am Plaza are $10 and seating space is limited.

The Bankers Life Fieldhouse portion of the home schedule begins on Friday, November 9 against the Green Bay Gamblers for the Ice’s annual Scout Night. Tickets for all Bankers Life Fieldhouse games go on sale soon.

Single-game tickets start at $11 and there is a $2 discount for children 10 and under and seniors 62 and over. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster by calling 1-800-745-3000, online at ticketmaster.com or by visiting select Wal-Mart and Simon Mall locations and the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office.

Season and group tickets are on sale now as well as Flex books starting at $125. Five-game mini plan are also available through the Indiana Ice office. For more information on tickets, call the Indiana Ice at (317) 925-4423.
