Des Moines Bucs Marnell Commits to St. Lawrence University October 18, 2012 7:45 AM

Des Moines Buccaneers forward Michael Marnell has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at St. Lawrence University following his USHL career.

Marnell is playing in his first USHL season and has appeared in all six games for the Buccaneers. The 17-year-old from Huntington Station, New York has collected two points (1g, 1a), including his first USHL career goal on October 5th vs. Lincoln. He dished out an assist on the game-winning goal in Friday’s 6-2 win against Omaha to help the Bucs earn their first win of the season. Marnell was selected by the Buccaneers in the 2012 USHL Entry Draft after he spent last season playing midget hockey for the Long Island Royals.

Four other current USHL players are also committed to attend St. Lawrence University – Gavin Bayreuther (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Michael Rotolo (Green Bay Gamblers), Drew Smolcynski (Indiana Ice), and Eric Sweetman (Youngstown Phantoms)

St. Lawrence University is located in Canton, New York and is a member of the ECAC. A total of five USHL alumni are on the Saints roster this season; George Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Flanagan (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Chris Martin (Indiana Ice), Gunnar Hughes (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Patrick Raley (Chicago Steel).
