NAHL players recognized by NHL Central Scouting

The North American Hockey League (NAHL )is pleased to recognize Topeka RoadRunners forward Tyler Andrew and Wichita Falls goaltender Evan Cowley, who have both been listed as a part of the NHL’s Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings. Both will compete and be on display at next month’s 2013 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament as a part of the 18U NAHL Selects team.

Having already secured a college commitment with NCAA Division I Ferris State, Andrew, 18, is having a great rookie season in Topeka. Andrew currently ranks third on his team in scoring with 13 goals and 12 assists in 30 games. A fixture on special teams, he has contributed eight power play points and a shorthanded goal. His commitment to Ferris State begins in the Fall of 2014.

His 6’6/205 lbs. frame casts a long shadow across the ice, but the Bethel Park, Pennsylvania native is more than just an imposing figure. “He has great hockey sense and he’s a very unselfish, team-first type of player,” said RoadRunner Head Coach/GM Scott Langer. “He’s got a great work ethic, learns quickly and continues to improve every week. He has a solid future in hockey ahead of him.”

Cowley, 17, has also had quite the season thus far. The native of Evergreen, CO, has appeared in 31 of the Wildcats 38 games to date. He has a 12-17-2 record with a 3.19 goals against average and a 89% save percentage. Earlier this season, the 6’4/185 lbs. goaltender played in the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game, where he made 15 saves on 17 shots in a 5-2 win for his team.

Cowley was picked in the third round (No. 50) by the Wichita Falls Wildcats in the 2012 NAHL draft. “Evan has a lot of naturally ability and has been learning at a very fast pace this season in the NAHL,” said Wildcats head coach Paul Baxter. “For a 17-year-old rookie, he has seen a lot of action this year and has adapted to the level of play where is now consistently playing well for us on a night in and night out basis.”
